Achieving Goals – What it Takes to Achieve Goals – Sylvester Stallone
Achieving Goals and Some Research Findings
Numerous studies done in the past have shown the only less than 20% of the entire population even sets goals. Of the less than 20% of the population that actually sets goals, more than 70% never achieve their goals. In summary that means that of the entire global population, less than 6% ever achieve their goals! That’s ridiculous isn’t? I mean seriously, ONLY 6% of people all over actually achieve goals…
Therefore I thought in would be of great use to explore this topic of (not setting goals) but instead “Achieving Goals”. So many people have systems and strategies for setting goals but what I believe is more important in nature, is what it takes in the process of “Achieving Goals”.
What’s Involved in Achieving Goals
So what is basically involved in the process of achieving goals? Obviously achieving goals requires setting goals, creating a plan of action to achieve those goals in a reasonable set amount of time and then taking action towards achieving those goals.
But what is it that is involved in the process of achieving goals that makes it “seem” so difficult and almost ridiculously impossible for so many people to actually do and achieve goals?
I believe what we must address and talk about are the internal factors (not external like goal setting, planning and execution) involved in achieving goals. By internal factors I mean, the inner resources and emotions like Awareness, Desire, Faith, Committed Willingness, and the Persistence to Consistently Take Action.
Those 5 qualities (if you like) or inner resources I believe are what makes the difference in achieving goals or “not” achieving goals. We’ve all heard stories about numerous great people who have set out to achieve goals and dreams, encountered numerous obstacles, setbacks and even falling flat on their faces several times, but still managed to make achieving goals a natural and easier part of their life and their reality.
Those people you will find, once they have gone through the those difficult processes and experiences and managed to achieve goals regardless of whatever setbacks, challenges or roadblocks, have always come out stronger, better and wiser. But more importantly, it’s almost like they discover some “secret” to making achieving goals easier.
So I’d like to share a story or movie of story with you about a man who managed to achieve what he really wanted to do, was passionate about and believed was his right to have. Because after all, if we’re going to talk about the “secret” to achieving goals, we might as well explore what it takes to make the things that you are truly passionate about a reality in your life. The story I’d like to share with you is the story about Sylvester Stallone and it is told by Anthony Robbins who happens to be a friend of his. So please feel free to sit back, relax and enjoy the video below (and also extract whatever insights that you need to extract from the story):
Anthony Robbins Tells the Sylvester Stallone “Rocky” Story
When I listened to this story about the Sylvester Stallone “Rocky” Story (several times now), the key messages which I got which apply to this article about Achieving Goals are:
1) Achieving Goals Master Resource Number 1: Awareness about what it is that you want, about what it is that truly moves you deep inside and what your life mission or purpose.
These are important because when your goals (what you want) are aligned with something you are unbelievably passionate about which also happens to be your life mission or purpose, you will tend to do whatever it takes, to go to and through all extremes during the process of achieving goals whatever they may be.
2) Achieving Goals Master Resource Number 2: Overflowing and Never-ending Desire for What You Want.
The desire for achieving your goal or dream must be like a bright flame or fire that never dies, never wavers but instead keeps growing stronger and stronger. There are times in life to be content and happy for what you want and the process of achieving goals is NOT the time for it. The fire of desire within you must be so strong that it will burn through any obstacle, setback or challenge that comes up during the process of achieving goals. Throughout the process of achieving goals, no matter how long it takes, the fire of Desire must burn through all the “unnecessary and unsupportive” comments and remarks that people around you make.
3) Achieving Goals Master Resource Number 3: Uncompromisable Faith in Yourself and Your Process.
During the process of achieving your goal, without Faith in yourself, your abilities and your own individual process of life, it would be all too easy to quit when the “going gets tough”. Faith must be the Oxygen that is needed for the Fire of Desire within you. Without Oxygen, no fire can keep burning. Faith is essential in your journey of achieving goals.
4) Achieving Goals Master Resource Number 4: Committed Willingness to Do Whatever It Takes.
The next inner resource all the great achievers and successful people tend have as part of their life and make a natural part of achieving goals is the Committed Willingness to do whatever it takes, to break through any challenge or obstacle and push through no matter what shows up. Being willing is not enough by itself and neither is being committed by itself. You must be both and both those qualities must be activated within you throughout the process of achieving goals.
5) Achieving Goals Master Resource Number 5: Consistent Persistent Action.
And finally, you must develop and have the Persistence to in order to take Consistent Action towards your goals and dreams. Achieving goals or achieving anything for that matter, requires action, that’s for sure. But action alone seems to be insufficient. You must take Consistent Action throughout the process of achieving goals. And the hidden or underlying quality that drives you towards taking Consistent Action is Persistence.
To me, that’s what I extracted not just from the Sylvester Stallone Story told by Anthony Robbins, but from all the other stories of struggles and success that I’ve read about, heard about or witnessed personally.
Achieving goals, most people think is a simple process of writing a bunch of things down like a “to do” list and then going out and accomplishing them. And perhaps that is why – because there is insufficient anticipation of what is really involved in the process of achieving goals – most never ever achieve goals or ever will.
The above 5 inner resources or qualities need to be developed within yourself and made stronger just as muscles need to be exercised frequently in order to be strong and ready for use during situations of high demand.
