This is the story of Father and Son Team Hoyt.
I came across them and their videos and just had to share it here because to me, Team Hoyt, truly radiates and expresses the handful of major inner qualities and inner resources that possibly ALL OF US could benefit from having more of.
As you watch this video, as you watch how Dick Hoyt (the father, now 70 years old) pushes, pulls and carries his son, Rick Hoyt (48 years old and the size of a full grown man) through marathons, triathlons and even Ironman competitions, you may want to stop and ask yourself, “What’s my excuse for not playing full-out in life, for not doing whatever it takes and for making excuses about why I can’t do things or have what I want in life?”
I know I did! And every time I watch this video or think of Team Hoyt now, I can’t help but be compelled to get of my ass and do something, do anything to get me closer to my goals and dreams, even if it’s just a step closer!
If you aren’t sure of how long a marathon is, it is a run that covers 42.2 km or 26.2 miles.
A triathlon is a race where competitors will first swim a set distance (usually about 1.5km), then ride a bicycle (usually 40km) and then run 10 km.
And if you are wondering what an Ironman competition is like, competitors swim 3.86 km (2.4 miles), then bike for 180.2 km (112 miles) and finally run a FULL marathon of 42.2 km (26.2 miles)! Dick and Rick Hoyt, together, have completed more than 1000 races together, including 6 Ironmans! Can you imagine?
I can’t even do that by myself yet, let alone while pushing, pulling and carrying someone else!
Enjoy this video, be inspired to take action as you watch this really moving story of Team Hoyt…
http://www.experienceserenity.com/blog/media/videos/team-hoyt.flvSo you’ve watched the video, what do you think?
What questions came up for you?
What do you feel and know that you have maybe been procrastinating or not doing?
What have you been delaying in your life?
What goals and dreams have you forgotten about or suppressed because either you or other people said you don’t have what it takes?
Why do I ask these questions?
Look at Rick Hoyt. Disabled from cerebral palsy. Even though he doesn’t have control over his body, he does have control of his mind.
Just with his mind alone and HUGE doses of determination to succeed, perseverance, persistence, faith, and action, he has achieved so many things. And I ask myself, what is my excuse, especially when I have a strong and healthy functioning body?
